Allison Martin Ewert

Allyson is a third-year PhD student, Entomology, Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge, LA. studying the effects of natural products on honey bee health and disease resistance. She is co-advised by Dr. Claudia Husseneder (LSU Entomology) and Dr. Vincent Ricigliano (USDA ARS).  Allyson is studying the effect plant and fungal extracts have on viruses that effect honey bees.  She will screen dozens of these extracts for their potential as honey bee antivirals using both cage and field experiments.  Her goal is to develop diverse natural products as scalable and sustainable treatments for honey bee health.  Outside of research, Allyson leads outreach events with the LSU Entomology Club, Elementary Schools, Middle School Science and Engineering Fairs and LSU AgCenter AgMagic.
