Mehmet Ali Doke started conducting research on honey bees as an undergraduate at Middle East Technical University in Turkey and got fascinated by this super-organism. He helped conduct the first honey bee colony losses survey in Turkey in collaboration with COLOSS. Mehmet’s master’s thesis focused on a metabolic enzyme in honey bee exhibiting seasonal alternative forms and environmental cues underlining this seasonal variation. For his doctoral studies, Mehmet joined Dr. Christina Grozinger’s laboratory in the Entomology PhD program at Penn State. In Grozinger’s lab, his research area is overwintering behavior in honey bees and related genetic, physiological, behavioral, pheromonal, and ecological factors.
